4 Day Prevention & Management of Violence & Aggression – Basic
Course Outcome
Describe the importance of communication, de-escalation, and staff support when dealing with aggressive incidents.
Demonstrate techniques to breakaway from: Wrist holds, Hair pulls, Body holds, Strangles, Clothing holds and defend against kicks and punches.
Demonstrate professional, effective, safe, physical intervention techniques to deal with a violent individual with the minimum risk of injury to staff and others.
Demonstrate the role of communication and teamwork while using physical interventions.
State under what conditions physical interventions should and should not be used.
State current CPR practice guidelines; be able to practically demonstrate basic CPR / life support techniques (Immediate Life Support in areas where an AED is available; and demonstrate the use of a pulse oximeter.
Summary
The course also discusses legal aspects of the application of restrictive practice, and its use in the clinical area.
Participants should be reasonably fit and healthy and wear old strong clothes and soft-shoes or a tracksuit and training shoes.
This course is not suitable for women who maybe/are pregnant.
Target Audience
All staff who require an in depth knowledge of managing violent and aggressive individuals.
Course Duration
This course is delivered over 4 days to allow for staff to attain a suitable level of competence in PMVA.
