2 Day PMVA Intermediate

Course Outcome

By the end of the session participants should be able to:

  • State the elements of the Conflict Resolution Training (which includes causes of violence and aggression, prevention, de-escalation, communication, staff support etc).
  • Demonstrate a range of disengagement techniques. (Breakaway).
  • Demonstrate a range of holds, (leading and guiding), taking control of situations, supporting, holding and deescalating in chairs.
  • Identify the risks associated with restraint, including positional asphyxia.

Demonstrate techniques to:

  • Staff are able to safely prevent and manage potentially violent/aggressive situations.

Target Audience

  • For staff who are required as part of their role, to support /guide service users by holding, but who DO NOT restrain service users on the floor.

Participants should be reasonably fit and healthy and wear old strong clothes and soft shoes or a tracksuit and training shoes.

This course is not suitable for women who may be / are pregnant.


This course requires a yearly update.
